Why should you brush your gum line
Dental hygiene question
In one of my classes at school, my teacher is having everyone write about person hygiene and why it is important. It makes me wonder if she thinks she has students that stink or something. Anyway, I got stuck with dental health.
I know why we should brush and floss our teeth. My mom says we need to brush our gum line and our tongues too. Just my luck my mom is a dentist, so I know she is right. You think she help me more, but she says that is all the help she is giving me and that I need to find out why for myself. She is letting me use the Internet to find out the reason why. Any help would be nice.

Well I am not sure if this is what your mom had in mind when she let you us the Internet to find you answers. With that being said. There are a few good reason why it is important to not only take care of our teeth but to take care of the whole mouth gums included.
Just like teeth we brush our gum line to keep food particles from getting stuck and to prevent decay.
By brushing our gum and tongue it helps to kill the bacteria that like to hang out there. Doing is is necessary to keep your gums healthy.
If you do not take good care of your gum you may start to develop periodontal disease. The bone surrounding your tooth will brake down. If it continues over time you will not have enough bone to hold your tooth/teeth in place.

It is a good idea to brush our tongue because, bacteria is all over it. By brushing and using mouthwash you will help kill the bacteria that can cause bad breath.
