Question about my Dentist and my Dental Insurance.
Okay so my husband has about 2000.00 dollars worth of work that is needed to be done. We have been waiting until his open enrollment at work before going to the dentist. Now that we have insurance, my husband wanted to start having his teeth taken care of.
The issue is that the dentist is stating that he will file the claim for us but expects us to pay in full the 2000.00. He said he will not wait for the insurance to send the payment. Even though our policy has a 2500.00 max limit which should take care of the dental service needed. If we had 2000.00 laying around we would not have waited to get the dental insurance. This make no sense to us. Is this normal practice with dentist just wanting their money up front?

Yes many dentist are making the people pay up front for work done. However I would shop out dentist for one that will not do that. Like you said if you had the kind of money you would not need to be paying for insurance.

Dentist may do something like that when you are a new to their office. At least that was the way my dentist would work. After I had him for over two years they started submitting the claims for me and billing me whatever may have been due. The last reply was right in saying if you do not like what that office is telling you then shop them out to find a dentist more willing to work things out with you.

When you have insurance that allows you to pick your own dentist, then it is up to the dentist on how they file out claims. However if you have a PPO plan see about choosing a dentist that is inside the network.
Those dentist already know that the insurance company will be paying claims in a timely manor. Therefore they may not make you pay for service up front like out side net dentist may. Not only that but normally staying inside the plans network help make sure you do not go over any UCR cost.

I suggest just getting what you can afford to get done each time. What other choices are there? You can look for a cheaper dentist or a dentist willing to give you a payment plan, take out a loan, or just save your money until he can have all the work done at once.
