When you lose a tooth and or teeth due to gum disease, tooth decay or trauma what is the best solution. My dentist is telling me the best way to replace missing teeth is by dental implants. Is that true? What are some other solutions? Would they be better or worse then having dental implants?

When it comes to missing teeth there are a few way to address fixing your smile. You can have partials, bridges, and implants. There is not one way per say better then the other. Depending on what you may want and or can afford to have done will be the deciding factor.
Example: For bridges you need to have two teeth on either side of the gap in order to have a bridge. Bridges are meant to be permanent but sometimes may need repairs and or replacement.
Partials are much like dentures only with the few teeth you need to fill in the gap. Meaning you can take them in and out of your mouth.
Implants like bridges are permanent. Implants are more expensive then bridges and unlike bridges may not be covered under your dental insurance.
Not everyone can have implants, such as people that are diabetic normally will not get implants. If you have too much bone loss you also may not be able to have implants. This is something your dentist can advise you on.
In the end what is best for you is up to you to decide. Before making a choice talk things over with your dentist ask all the questions you need in order to make the best choice for you.

One thing to look into is if you have insurance before stating any type of dental work for your missing make sure you call your insurance company and check to see if you have coverage for missing teeth.
Some dental insurance plans have missing teeth causes which if you had the missing teeth prior to getting the dental insurance they may not pay out under the plan. This is important to know so you do not get suck unknowing with a bill.

I found that if you want to have the dental implants that a dental discount plan works the best at least you get about a 20% discount off the cost of implants and you do not have to worry about any missing teeth causes.
