My question is that I was just told that my three year old son has two big cavities in his back top molars. Our family dentist is advising that I go to a Pediatric dentist that can give him general anesthesia to have the fillings done. He is advising this due to my son age.
Otherwise he will do the filling under laughing gas but that it may be a harder way for my so to go since he has two fillings to be done and he may have some discomfort. Also my son may be moving around too much for them to be able to do both fillings in the same day and he would need to go though this twice with them.
I get it and it makes sense but I have two problems. First and for most I am afraid of general anesthesia because of the possible risks. I was always advise never to go under unless you had no choice. Second I have to admit that cost is a factor too.
Since my current insurance will cover the fillings to be done only by a family dentist and not a specialist like a pediatric dentist. If I do go to a pediatric
dentist I will have no coverages and will have to pay it out of pocket. So I would like to hear some advise about my two worries.

Putting cost aside for a second I would say do what you feel will be best for your son. If you have concerns about having your son under a general anesthesia then before going that route you need to address your concerns until you feel that is the better way to go.
Otherwise have the family dentist do the dental service under the laughing gas. He does not have to have both cavities done in one day. If he can not sit though having both done accept that he may have to make two appointments for his filling to be completed.
I can tell yo which way to go since that would be your family choose just do not go agenst you better judgement.
