Is this pain normal?
The pain is normal after going though what you just had done. I would guess this may hurt for a day or two. If the pain is so bad that you can not take it then speak to your dentist and see if they can issue you a stronger pain medicine. When you have an abscess most dentist will not remove or do a root canal until the abscess is cleared. That is why taking the antibiotics as directed is important in order to clear the abscess faster.
