Is it safe to not wear my retainer?
I got off my braces about a month and a half ago. Now I have to wear bottom and top acrylic retainers. And although I have to wear my retainers all the time. I was wondering if I could get away with only wearing the bottoms ones at night. They are a pain and they bug me to wear. Do you think it would cause any problems?

- My retainer has been dirty for a long while. How can I clean it? Consult your dentist that gave you the retainer. Since you went so long with out wearing it, it may now not fit correctly. Although it may be a pain to wear your bottom retainers, it is important to do as directed by your orthodontic dentist. By not wearing them as directed to you run the risk of your teeth shifting. At the very least before deciding to do that call your dentist and see if it would be fine for you to do that. This way if you do decide to not wear your retainer as directed the dentist can be able to inform you of all the possible side effects.

Since you just got your braces off less then two months ago you need to wear your retains. If you do not your teeth may shift. After being in braces for such a long time why would you want to risk not only messing up your teeth by shifting but think about the money you have already invested in your braces. The retainers are new and just like your braces you will adjust to having them in your mouth. So in time they will not be a pain to wear.

If you are a minor maybe you should ask your parents what they think about this. I am not sure they will agree with you but since they put the time and money into you having your teeth corrected in the first place they should know that you do not want to wear your retainer.
