Eight year old daughter with cavities, what to do?
My daughter has already has two cavities. I am not sure why, I have her brush her teeth after breakfast and dinner. Although they are just her baby teeth I do not want her to continue to get cavities. Not sure what I should do about this. The dentist says to get her to floss more. The truth is right now she does not floss. Getting her to brush is hard enough. Anyone advise or how to get her to floss? Or many any other suggestions.

Do you watch you daughter when she brushes her teeth? I ask this only because you stated it was hard to get her to brush. Sometimes children will fake brushing their teeth when mom is not looking. Or they just do not brush long enough.
My son was noted for just brushing the front of his teeth. I would have to tell him to open is mouth and brush all the teeth. He meant well, he was just young and had to be reminded of the correct way to brush. I did not let him brush his teeth alone until I was sure he was doing it right.

Does your daughter have a regular manual tooth brush? If so try getting a tooth brush that vibrates. They also have the one that plays a song. The song the toothbrush plays is two minutes long. Which encourages a child to brush for the full two minutes. This also may be fun for her and make her want to brush more or at least not give you a hard time about brushing.
As far as flossing maybe that will be something you will need to do for her after dinner. If she does not like you doing it tell her she can when she shows you that she will floss correctly.

It can be hard to get your young children to brush and floss but it is important to do. As you can see if she does not she will get a cavity.
If your daughter gives you a hard time about brushing her teeth then you do it for her. That goes for the flossing too. She will get tired of that and want to do it herself soon enough. Then you will just need to watch her to make sure she does it.
Otherwise you can be like my dad. He would only tell me once to brush and floss. He would look me in the eyes and say ” it is up you take care of your teeth, however do not come to me to get them fixed if you get a cavity.” Coarse at the time I did not believe him, and sure enough I got a cavity. He let me hurt for two days, before going to the dentist to get it fixed. That was my last cavity I ever got, because believe me I took care of my teeth from that day on.

Floss may be to hard for your child to use. For small hands have a hard time with holding or keeping tight the floss. You may have better luck with a floss pick. They can have sharp ends so just watch her until she gets it down.

Dear Angras, I had my daughter brushing and flossing at age seven. It was hard to get her to do it, but she did. This however, did not stop her from getting a cavity here or there. I found out that for some children their baby teeth are prone to getting cavities. Making it easier for them to get cavities even if they are brushing and flossing regularly.
After talking it over with her dentist I decided to pay for sealants. That was the best thing I did. She stop getting the cavities which was good for me, but great for her since getting cavities did upset her too.
