What is a partially erupted tooth?

What does it mean when a dentist says a tooth is partially erupted

So a dentist told me I have a back tooth that is partially erupted.  That I should have it pulled.  What does that mean?  Should it be pull ?  I not sure what he was talking about really.  I just said I would make an appointment later for it.

    A partially erupted tooth is a tooth that has not fully exposed itself through the gum. Only a portion of the tooth is visible.
