Braces, Extractions, and Gaps
I have crooked teeth and I have always wanted them straighten out as a kid but my family at the time could not afford the extra expense of my getting braces. Now that I am an adult I have been looking into adult braces. I talked to an orthodontic dentist for a free consult.
He told me that I would need to have two of my back teeth pulled by an oral surgeon before he would be able to put braces on my teeth to straighten them out. This worries me. I do not want to pull out my teeth. I do not want to be left with gaps just to have straight teeth.
Well the braces fixed the gaps that are left as well as straighten my teeth?

Yes a dentist would not pull out teeth unless it was necessary. The orthodontic dentist will straighten out your teeth with out gaps. Since you said you have Crooked teeth he may need the room to straighten them back out. That is why he is telling you to have two teeth pulled.
I suggest calling up that dentist and asking him all these questions. Let them know your worries and concerns. That is the only way they can address your issues.

Common mistake that some people make when taking to any dentist really is that they either forget to ask questions or are afraid to. There are also sometimes when questions will hit us after the fact.
Whatever the case was for you. Call the dentist back and ask all of the questions you now have. Getting braces and having teeth pull is a big deal so you have a right to know all there is to know.
Calling the dentist will not only help you get the information you need, but it will aloud you to make an informed decision on your dental needs.

Well he would be a pretty bad orthodontic dentist if he left gaps in your teeth. Sometimes it is needed to pull teeth in order to fix the remaining ones into place so that you can have nice teeth. I would not be to upset about having to pull only two teeth.
However the last reply is correct that you should talk to the dentist and ask them any questions you need in order to feel better about the process.

My daughter has a very small mouth so when her adult teeth came in she had crooked teeth due to over crowding. She had to have four teeth pulled in order to get braces.
Now is is nineteen and her teeth look great and she does not have any gabs. Believe me there is no way I would have let my little girl get gaps between her teeth.
