Dental Insurance how is it different then Medical Insurance
Hi, I am seventeen and will be working as a receptionist at a Dental office on the weekends and a few hours during the week. I would like to know how dental insurance is different from medical insurance. I was told that part of my job would be related to making follow up calls to the insurance companies regarding claims premium due. I know they are going to train me and I will not be doing that right off, but I would love to have information so I know what they are talking about.

I do not know much about medical insurance per say since they are to varied. However I do work at a dentist office. For the most part you may start off with booking appointments, doing filing, filling out claims forms and submitting them to the insurance companies.
Though more and more dental office are making the customer pay in full. So that they do not have to chase down insurance companies for payment of premium due. They will teach you how to fill out a claim form it is really not that hard of a thing to do.
As far as calling insurance company for payment you do not really need to know much. You are just calling to see if they sent out the check yet or when they will.
Just listen to the person training you and take in all in. Otherwise it is not a hard job at all and can be fun if you make sure to get long with the people you work for and do a good job.

Dental insurance is different then Medical insurance but not so much that it effects what you should be doing in a dental office.
Each office is different in how they want things done. I would suggest not worrying about to much in advance. Like you said they will train you in the way they want you to do things.

I would forget about Medical Insurance all together since that is not what you will be dealing with. Here is one tip I can give you know your ADA codes. These are dental codes you will need to know when filling out a claim for for dental services.
I would guess the office that you will be working for will give you these codes. However you can see some just by reviewing some HMO dental insurance plans. Most list their coverages by the codes.
The best thing you can do is to pay attention during training and work hard to learn your job well.
