First Tip: READ, read then read again. In the dental Insurance field I have yet to come across any scams. Dental Insurance if a filed program though the department of insurance in your state. Makes it hard for an insurance company to be a scam.
However it is important to read and understand what it is you are buying. Some website are harder to go though then others so finding what you maybe looking for can become an issue.
Rule of thumb is to call their customer service number when you do not understand what it is you are reading or can not find what it is you are looking for on their site. It is up to you to know what you are buying even more so when buying on line since it is assumed that you have taken the time to read what is provided to you.

I agree reading and understanding what it is you are buying is very important. Whether it is dental insurance or any other product you may think to buy on line.
What I like to do regardless if I understand what I am reading is to call the member service line to make sure I can really talk to someone. If I can not get though to a real person then I look for another site where I can get the product that I want and where someone answers the customer service line.
In the past I would buy a product, have a problem with it and then could never get though to a customer service to resolve my problem. So I have learned to call before buying making sure that in theory I will not have that issue after buying.

When buying a dental insurance or dental plan you need to know what is most important to you. Such as is staying with your own dentist a factor in your search for dental insurance? If so then you need to know before searching what plan that dentist takes so you know what you are looking for.
Another thing is how much work do you think you need. Some plans have Yearly Max Limitations. If you know you need 5000.00 worth of dental work buying a plan that maxes out at 1000.00 per person per year may not be the best of ideas.
Sames goes for waiting periods. If you have a toothache today buying a plan with long term waiting periods for dental services would also not be a good idea.
People buy the wrong plans for their needs all the time because they do not fully understand what they are buying or they do not fully know their own needs. That does not make the plans they bought scams. Do your homework make sure you know what you are buying and that it fits your needs.
