Second dental opinions, How do you know what dentist to trust
When getting a second dental opinion how do you know which dentist is correct?
So here is the story. Last year I was told by the dentist at the time that I needed to have a filling done on one tooth and to have a deep cleaning. So wanting to make sure I got a second dental opinion from a different dentist. That dentist said that I do not need a filling or a deep cleaning. Okay so I when to him for just the regular cleaning he said I needed.
Six mouths later he says now I do need to have a filling and a deep cleaning. He gave me a cost that was much higher then the dentist that I when to before him. This bother me so I when to another dentist for a second opinion. That dentist told me that I do not need a deep cleaning and that I do have a very small cavity on my tooth but it was too small to worry about doing a filling on yet. When different dentist tell you different things how do you know which one is telling you the truth. I do not want to feel like I got bate and switched. Which is how I am feeling. They tell me what I want to hear the first time then try to get me to do all this expensive dental work the second time I go. What is up with that?

What are you telling the dentist that you are getting the second opinion from? If you go to the second dentist complaining about all the dental work the first one said you needed.
Then do not be surprised that the second may make suggestions that would cause you to have less dental work. If a dentist knows where you stand on how much work you want to have done then they are going to try and work thing out so that you can at least have some maintenance on your teeth.

It sounds like you are doing a lot of dentist flip flopping. What you may want to keep in mind is that a second opinion is just that another dentist opinion on what they feel you need.
They may not always been the same. You need to decide what is best for you. Some dentist are more pro active but if they feel you are not they may put off work if they feel like it can be so that you can better afford it.
I am not saying that is your case. I think you just need to pick one dentist and stay with them for a while. Try and find a dentist that you like. Unless they are way out in left field why are you going to shop them out each and every time you do not like what they have to say.
