Dental Insurance opinion, What is better a HMO or a PPO
Looking into getting a dental insurance plan for my family. We are not really seeing any one dentist so that is not a factor. Since we are not locked into one dental office which type of dental insurance would be best for my and my family. A dental HMO or a dental PPO. From what I can tell PPOs are more expensive monthly then HMOs. Does that mean that PPO give you better coverages? I am not so much worried about the monthly cost per say then just wanting to have which ever plan pays out the most and give me the most benefits.

Just because you may pay more does not mean the plan is better or worse then a less expensive plan. It is all in what you feel best fits your needs.
HMO and a PPO are two completely different type of insurance plan.
On a PPO
A PPO dental insurance plan will provide you with more freedom to choose your dentist than an HMO dental plan. You will be able to seek dental services from a wider selection of dentists and may visit any dentist or specialist within the PPO network.
Deductibles and Coinsurance – Typical with a PPO Dental Insurance Plan
With a PPO dental insurance plan you will usually have a deductible and a coinsurance amount. In some cases, PPO dental plans will give you an option to seek dental treatment outside of the directory of dentists. If your PPO dental plan provides this option, you will most likely be required to pay a higher coinsurance and your maximum payable benefits amount may also be greatly reduced for treatments outside of the network.
HMO
These insurance plans, also known as “capitation plans,” operate like their medical HMO cousins. This type of dental plan provides a comprehensive dental care to enrolled patients through designated provider office (dentist). A Dental Health Maintenance Organization (DHMO) is a common example of a capitation plan.

I would suggest starting with the HMO insurance plans since you said staying with a dentist is not a factor. I like HMO plans because generally you do not have the long term waiting periods and yearly dollar max limit per person.
However with that said many HMO will not cover for you to see a Specialist so make sure you read each plan detail information.
