Dental care, is $1075.00 too much for a crown?
I had a filling fall out a few days ago. I went to my dentist and was told that there was a cavity in the tooth again and I needed it to be refilled and since it is a large cavity he saying I should have it crowned. The filling cost is not so bad but when he told me that the crown would be $1075.00 I about died.
I do not have dental insurance but it never really been and issue until now. First is $1075.00 the going price for crowns these days or am I being taken. Second if I got dental insurance just how much would it save me ?

Well when you do not have dental insurance $1075.00 for a crown depending on the type of crown you are getting seems about right. They can range between 700 – 1200 though prices very depending on where you live.
Does dental insurance save you money off the cost of crowns? You bet it does. The problem you may have with a few plans is their waiting periods. Many plans like dental PPOs have waiting periods for crowns. Had you had one in effect you can see where you may have gotten up to 50 percent off or more.
At this point you may want to shop out HMOs dental insurance plans or dental discount plans, since they normally do not have waiting periods that PPOs do.

If you are getting a full porcelain crown then off had based on what I had to pay for mine without insurance the prices seems right. Since I had to pay 985.00 which is not much less then what you are being quoted.
Though now I have insurance for the same crown with my insurance I have it would now only cost me 300.00 so you can see at least for me how dental insurance is making a big difference.
