X-smoker, bad brown teeth, do I need cosmetic dental services to make my teeth look good again
I am asking wheter or not I need cosmetic dental services to make my teeth look nice again because my current dental insurance will not cover me if I do. I want nice teeth. I know it is my fault for smoking over 15 years but I quite over two and I hate my teeth. They are so brown and ugly looking. Can a dentist make them better with a cleaning? Which is what I would be covered for.

Caden, may I first say good going on quoiting smoking. I know just how hard that can be. My mom being a smoker of many years too.
Now to answer your question. A basic dental cleaning is not really for whitening your teeth though having a cleaning done will make your teeth clean. And by removing tartar build up it may also help to whiten your teeth a little by just being cleaner then before having the cleaning done.
Now you an try over the counter whitening strips to see how they work out for you. I use Crest whiten strips in the past and really like how my teeth turned out but I was not a smoker. However coffee stains are not fun either.
Now if we are only talking about whitening your teeth and not that you have other teeth issues like cavities that need to be address, your current dental plan may not cover for whitening treatment but you can get a dental discount plan that will help reduce the cost of whitening treatments done by a dentist that is a provider of the plan.
A dental discount plan will also give you discounted savings off cosmetic dental work as long as there is a dentist in the plan you can go to. Something to look into that will be able to help you out.

A general cleaning will help to clean your teeth so having one done may help to whiten your teeth up a little. Have you talked to your dentist to make sure you do not have any cavities or gum issues that need to be address?
Maybe have the dentist work a treatment plan then talk to your current insurance company to find out what would and would not be covered.
That way you only need to address the dental services that would not be covered and as the last reply stated you could pick up a dental discount plan for those services.
I found that whitening strips do help to whiten you teeth but only a dentist can get your teeth their whitest.

Just try and use whitening strips and toothpaste with whitening. Over time your teeth should look better without having to spend tons of money for dental whitening treatments.
