Hello I think I may be getting gingivitis or gum disease. I am not sure which but my gums are really red and when I brush they bleed. I am told those are signs of bad gums. I have not been to a dentist in a long time I really do not like going. I think they are all out to just take your money. Which is something I do not have much of.

Is there any dental insurance that will cover for treatment of gums for free? If so I would get it that way I know the dentist is not over charging me. Otherwise is there anything I can do without having to go to the dentist for care?

Which I did not do. After all my teeth were in good shape and I really did not see anything wrong with my gums. Now eight months latter my gums are red and sore when I brush and some times when I eat. Is this because I did not have the deep cleaning that was suggested to me? If so and I really need to have it done is there insurance for this so that it will cost much less the $400 that I still do not have.

I first thought that my gums were bleeding because I had gotten a new toothbrush around the same time. So I did not think to much about it at the time. Now I am a little worried. I do not have a lot of extra money and I was told gum issues can be more expensive then teeth issues. Is that true? I not sure if I should give it more time and see if it stops or see a dentist and worry about a crazy dental bill.

The dentist is working with me on the cost and helpping me with my gums. The problem I have is that I also have really bad breath. I do my best to keep my distance from people because I am afraid they will notice how bad my breath is. I know it has to do with the gum disease but what can I do about it. My dentist told me to stay away from any chewing gum. Does anyone know of some really good mints that last longer then a few minutes while it is in your mouth.

My gums have been red and slightly swollen for over two months now. I be using Listerine with gum care and that seemed to be helping me. My gums still hurt but not all the time mostly when I brush or eat. Since I do not have a dentist and no dental insurance using mouthwash is really the only affordable thing for me to do.

About a week ago I have notice that my breath is not so fresh like it use to be either. One of my friend said my breath stunk. I do not know why that would be since I am always using mouthwash. Do you think it has anything to do with my gums? If so should I see a dentist? If I have to see a dentist where can I find a really cheap one to look at my teeth?

Thanks

My gums really hurt and I do not have dental Insurance

So about two weeks ago I got a soft toothbrush and toothpaste with whiting. Now my gums are really sore and they are bleeding. I did not worry so much at first since I started wearing my retainer again that I had a while back. I figured since it had been a while since I wore my retainer last that may be way my gums hurt now.

However, it is two weeks latter and my gums still hurt. I do not have dental insurance so going to the dentist is out right now. I am not sure what to do to stop my gum pain.

State Programs in Action: Ohio

School-based sealant programs in Ohio began in 1984, with a single demonstration program in one city. By 2000, 34 of Ohio’s 88 counties had programs. These programs target children who are at high risk for tooth decay and least likely to receive dental care.

As the program has expanded, the statewide percentage of 8-year-olds who have dental sealants has increased steadily, from 11% in 1987–1988, to 30% in 1998–1999, and most recently to 43% in 2007. Although this percentage still falls short of the Healthy People 2010 objective of 50% of the state’s 8-year-olds having sealants, children from all demographic groups in schools with sealant programs have achieved or exceeded the objective.

The Ohio program has shown that school-based programs could potentially reduce or eliminate racial and economic disparities by reaching children at high risk for tooth decay.

For more information and references supporting these facts, please visit www.cdc.gov/nccdphp.
