Can a 12 year old use whiten strips?
I have a son that is 12 he has good teeth and no cavities, however his teeth are a little yellow looking. The dentist said they could whiten them with no problem. The real problem with that is I just can not afford to have them done by a dentist. If it was a cavities or something I would have it fixed, but I can not see spending 100 plus for a whiten treatment. I started to look at the over the counter whiting strips, they do not say that you can not use for a 12 year old. So just wondering if any one knows if it is ok to try.

Dear Lyn,
I do not think you would have any problems with using whiten strips on your son. However, maybe you would like to try using tooth paste with whiten first to see if that helps. It may take a little longer to use but it has less whiten treatment so will not be so strong on your son’s teeth either.

Well in the case of Crest whiten strips they state that they have not conducted a research on children under age of 12. They also state that their strips are not intended for children under 12 to use. Although there are other name brands then just Crest, I thought this will give you some good information since they seem to be one of the more popular ones.

You should be fine. If you are worried but still want to try it. Maybe keep them on for a shorter time period then stated.
Keep in mind that whiten strips may cause tooth sensitivity during treatment and a little after. That is normal but beware of that fact.
