Question: I recently learned that I need two root canals, crowns, and a few minor fillings. Since I don’t have dental insurance, I considered going to a dental school for treatment. However, the school is quite far from my location, and scheduling an appointment for the necessary work has been challenging. I’m considering seeing a local dentist to confirm the treatment plan and explore ways to manage the costs.
I plan to prioritize the essential treatments while deferring others to manage the financial burden. I’m also still determining the benefits of dental insurance, as I’ve been informed about potential waiting periods for the required procedures.
One of my concerns is about the pain associated with root canals. I’d like to know what to expect and how to proceed in an effective and cost-efficient way. I would greatly appreciate any advice or insights on the best action to take.
Reply: I’m sorry to hear about your dental issues. It’s definitely a challenging situation to navigate, especially without dental insurance. I understand that you’re considering various options to manage the costs and prioritize your treatments, and I’m here to help.
Regarding the potential benefits of dental insurance, it’s essential to carefully review the coverage options and any waiting periods for specific procedures. While some dental insurance plans may have waiting periods for major treatments like root canals, they can still provide valuable financial assistance for other routine dental care and unexpected emergencies. Also, there are still many PPO (Preferred Provider Organization) plans that do not have waiting periods and dental HMO (Health Maintenance Organization) insurance plans that do not have waiting periods. PPO plans allow you to choose any dentist, while HMO plans require you to select a primary care dentist from a network of providers. It might be worth exploring different insurance plans and comparing their benefits to see if they align with your current and potential future dental needs.
As for the pain associated with root canals, it’s important to remember that advancements in dental techniques and anesthesia have significantly improved the overall experience. Many patients report minimal discomfort during and after the procedure, which should provide some reassurance. Your dentist can provide detailed information about what to expect and any necessary post-treatment care to manage any discomfort effectively. You’re in good hands.
In terms of managing costs, discussing your concerns with a local dentist is a great step. They can help you understand the essential treatments and provide insights on potential payment plans or alternative options to make the necessary dental care more affordable. It’s also advisable to seek a second opinion from another dentist. This can help you gain more confidence in the proposed treatment plan and associated costs, ensuring you’re comfortable with your decisions.
As you explore your options, maintaining open communication with your dental providers and seeking clarity on all aspects of your treatment plan can help you make informed decisions. This open dialogue can empower you to balance effectiveness and cost-efficiency in addressing your dental needs.

Florida dental care, Dental insurance quote for two crowns. I was told that I would need two crowns one to replace an old crown that I had and a new one for a chipped tooth. I want to have this dental work done but the price I was being quoted was just to much for me right now.
I thought I would try and find a dental insurance plan that can help me out with the cost of getting the needed crown work. I would like to know if you have any dental plans that can help me as well as if you can offer a quote on crown cost.
I am currently shopping out dental insurance. I need to get quotes on not only the cost of having a dental plan but what my cost would be for getting a crown down. I need the best dental plan for crowns. I know I need to have at least two.
I have an old crown that is cracked and another one that is coming off all the time. I do not have any dental benefits and the cost of two crowns would be more then I can afford on my own.
I have had this old crown now for eight years or so. It was put on after having a large size cavity. Now it really is hurting me and at this time I do not have dental insurance though work or any place else.
I seen a dentist and was told that I now need to have root canal done an will need to have a new crown put back on The cost of having this done was well over $1000 and I am not sure what to do. I need a dental plan that will help me with this right away.
I missed placed my retainer that I have to wear every day except for when I am eating. I take it out once in a while to go to sleep to, if they are bugging me and I can not go to sleep with them. Other then that I left them in as advised.
Now I can not recall what I did with them. I do not want my teeth to start shifting again after my mom paid for my braces and everything but I do not see the dentist for another two weeks. Will my teeth shift that soon? Or can I use that time time look for my retainer? My mom will be very upset if she has to pay for another one.
I was while ago by a dentist that I need to have a crown and a crown replacement. I been putting off having this additional dental care since money is always an issue. So I just paid to have my cleaning and a filling done at the time.
I have been looking at your dental plans and what crowns would cost if I got one of the dental plans that you offer and see there are many different crown types. Can you explain to me the difference of a metal crow, a metal with porcelain and I do not see them but full porcelain crowns. All I know is that my friends tell me to get a full porcelain crowns but I guess they really cost more then the other two. Shopping out dental plans and information that will best help me in choosing one. Thank you
I will be having two root canals in the back and I will be needing crowns on both teeth. Since I have to go to a specialist for the root canals the cost is really high at almost $1800 and that is just for the needed root canals which there is nothing much I can do there.
However the dentist what to give me porcelain crowns that are going to cost $800 each. I just can not afford to have all this dental work. I am scraping up the money for the root canals as it is. I told him I would just have cheap metal crowns for now which would cost less then 100.00 each.
My thinking is when I can better afford the more costly crowns I would get them at that time. Is having metal crowns really all that bad when they are in the back of my mouth anyway. Opinions on what you would do would be a great help in my decision process.
I just had a porcelain crown put on two days ago, I am not sure if I am really happy with it. I now have some tooth sensitive where I did not have that before the crown and it seems a little rough on the back of the crown. Should I go back to the dentist? Or see a new dentist to have it corrected.
Yesterday one of my crowns came off. My tooth does not hurt and the crown is not bent or messed up in any way. I want to know if it is safe to just super glue the crown back on? I am too poor to afford to go to the dentist and this country is totally screwed up as far as providing good low cost dental care to people who are in need.
What is the process of having a dental crown put on? I was told by my dentist that I have new large size cavity in a tooth that had an old filling in it. He said that, he can do the filing but advises me to have the tooth crowned so that it protects my tooth from braking.
It is a bad tooth that I also put a small chip in it once. I am worried that having a crown will hurt. What does a dentist do to put a crown on? Do I have to do anything special to take care of it? Advise please
I have dental insurance and it is a PPO. Trying to stay within the network since I do get better coverages that way I picked a dentist from their plan provider list. I have never been to this dentist before and it had be a little over a year since I have seen a dentist.
I went in for my basic X-rays and cleaning deal and was told that I have three cavities. One of them being very large that the dentist told me I should have it crowned. Adding crown cost and what my plan will cover I am still looking at a cost to me of around $575.00. This is an added expense that I was not expecting to have when my teeth do not even hurt me. I would think if I had all that going on I would have know it.
I would like to know if I had a second opinion from another dentist would dental insurance normally cover for that? I am not sure and it does not say any thing about it in the packet information they gave to me.
I am not sure what to do and would like some advise. I do not have dental insurance and although I have money I am far from being rich and wanting to spend it on on having dental care. I went to the dentist and was told that I should have a filling, a root canal and two crowns.
He wants to crown the tooth that needs a filling saying the filling is very large and it would protect the tooth better. All of this would cost me at little over $1500.00. This is the first time I have been to a dentist in over two years and the first time with this dentist. Should I be getting a second opinion? Or shopping out his rate. Not sure if that is high or not in regards to having dental work done.
I have a bad back tooth it is the last molar on the bottom right side of my mouth. I seem to be always having problems with that tooth on and off. I went to the dentist that said he could save it by doing a root canal and putting a crown on it.
I have dental insurance so that will help me some regarding the cost. However, I really just wanted it pulled. I had filling done on this tooth twice before and I am tired of messing with it. The dentist said he could pull it but would advise against it. Saying that my teeth may start to shift.
It is in the back and I really do not care. Will my teeth really start to shift that badly without it? Wanting to pull it but would that be a big mistake?
What will a dentist do to fix a cracked tooth? I noticed a few days ago that I cracked my tooth on a bone. I can see a light line going down the side. So I made a dental appointment. I will be able to see the dentist in three days from now. I am eating really soft foods because I am afraid to brake off my tooth. What will the dentist do to fix it? Will I need to have a crown or can they just use bonding or something like that?
Can not afford dental care, letting my teeth rot.
I currently have two abscessed teeth that I am sure needs to be pulled and about six cavities that need to be filled. I am on the low side of low income with no dental insurance. The amount of dental work that I need to have done will cost me more then I can save in four years! There are no caring dentist that are willing to help me I know since I called five in my area who all said that they would only be able to give between 5 to 10 percent discount if I pay in full. Please there is no way I can paid cash in full and they think they are doing me a favor.
So at this point what can I do? I am thinking about letting them go until they fall out. I do not really care since I can not seem to get any dental care. I am just wondering if I continue to do nothing what will happen? Will my teeth just come out on their own ? Will I be able to pull them out if given enough time? I am in pain but I am thinking if the teeth come out that would stop the pain.
I am trying to find out information for my friend. She has two baby teeth that never had adult teeth come in. She is twenty five now and will never have adult teeth for those two baby teeth. So I am wondering if she can have adult size crowns put on baby teeth to make them look more appealing. If not what else could she do that would not be too costly.
Hello, I need to have three crowns. all in three crown would be for my molars which are in the back of my mouth. I want to have the metal or silver crowns because they are $250.00 cheaper that is a saving of $750.00. The silver crowns I can afford without to much financial worries. The white crowns I would need to put on a credit card and god only knows how long it would take me to pay off that bill.
My friends are telling me to get the white crown because the silver ones are tacky and look bad. My thinking is the crowns are going to be in the back of my mouth, so it not like you will really see them. Yet the people I talk to about this seem to think I am crazy for wanting the silver ones. It is not like I want the silver crown over the white crown only that I can afford them where the other crowns would put me in dept.
So my quetion is: Is it really that bad to have silver crowns if they are in the back of your mouth? Or should I go with what my friends tell me and put myself in dept for the tooth color white crowns? Opinions please.
What do you do when you have dental insurance but the cost of all the services you need still exceed what you can afford to spend. I need two root canals which will need to also have crowns, and four fillings. I have been putting off having the dental work I needed until I got dental insurance though my job.
Even with the insurance company, my part of the bill would come out to be over $1000.00. What do I do to get my teeth fixed? I do not have $1000.00 to spend. The fact is I have only about half them much money to spend on fixing my teeth. Any advise please
I Have a old crown that just fell off three days ago. I went to the dentist that originally put the crown in many years ago. He told me that he can put it back on as a temporally fix, but that I need a new crown as soon as possible.
I damaged the old crown so it really does need to be replaced. My current dental insurance I have though work has a one year waiting period for crowns. Which makes it so I would still have to wait five months before they will cover me to get a new crow. I do not mind buying a dental insurance plan to cover in the mean time, but all the dental plans I have seen inclue waiting periods. I need something that can help me now until my work plan kicks in.
I am having to have two crowns done with a filling here and there. My dentist told me I should not keep putting it off or I will need to get a root canal which will only cost more money. Okay so he scared me some about the work I need. Right now I do not have dental insurance. Is there any dental insurance plans, I can get which would be okay with me knowing I need this dental work done?
If so…. I also need a plan that does not have waiting periods for crowns. My dentist told me most plans do have waiting periods for crowns. So I need to try and find one that does not have waiting periods or one with shortest time period for me to wait.
