Can this hurt my teeth?

Posted on Thursday, Sep. 24th 2009 10:05 AM by Dental Plan Review in Dental Help 4 Comments »

I have a small gap between my two top front teeth.  My mom is being really lazy about getting me to a dentist. She does not think it is a big deal since other wise  my teeth are perfect. However I tell her it is a big  deal to me  and that  it’s just a small gap that can be easily fixed.

Any way she just will not listen to me so.  I did some research on the Internet and I saw that you can use dental rubber band to tie around the two front teeth and depending on the width of the gap, it will close in about a week or two.  I can not afford to get those either but was thinking that I have a friend that has braces with those little rubber. I could get one from him and try using that instead.  It is the same concept  a so any rubber band that was small enough should work right?

No not do it! I have not heard of these dental rubber bands that you found on the internet, but I am guessing you would still need to be under supervision of a dentist.

Saying that you did try this thought out of yours, and you are able to move your teeth to close your gab. You are not thinking things though. What would happen to the other side of the teeth you are pushing together. Instead of having one gap you may wine up having two.

Well lets think some thing out. I going say that the correct way would be to go to the orthodontic dentist to have them correct this issue. I understand your mom ruling out this choice for you. Which she has ever right to since you are expecting her to pay for it, and she is not on the same boat about how necessary it is.

With that in mind you find something on line about these dental rubber bands. I not saying that they will or will not work, I do not have enough information about them.

Lets assume that they work. You still are not going to get those because you say you can not afford them either. I am guessing you have to order them online with a credit card. which may mean you would have to ask mom, and you probably already know there is a good chance she will say no.

So your bright idea is to use your friend’s rubber bands, thinking this should work even though are not meant to be used in that way.

With that being said here are what I think may be some of your out comes. You decide if it is worth it or not.

    1) It may work and you have the perfect teeth you been wanting.

    2) It may make your problem even worse by causing a greater gab problem or even make your teeth crooked.

    3) Messing up your teeth more may force your mom in having to fix your teeth or she may just let you deal with your own mess.

Wow do you really think that would work? Well the smart thing you did was to try and asked someone first about your silly idea, before going ahead with it. I hope by reading some of your replies you will decide that it would not be such a good idea after all.

I can understand the disappoint of not having your mom just get you the braces. You are just trying to figure out how to get what you want. That by doing what you are thinking will help you have he teeth you want to have.

The problem is I am not sure you are seeing the bigger picture. This happens to many people adults also. Just step back from you wanting what you want no matter what.
This can be hard but important step.

Think things out as if you are your mom and your son just does this behind your back. How would that make you feel. Then on top of it he makes a small issue into a larger problem. Then what would you think. Would you be happy?

Instead of rushing into doing something. Try instead to think out how you can have what you want but get it done right. Talk to your mom explain how important it is to you offer to help on the cost by getting a part time job if you can.

Remember sometimes we do not always get want we want when we want it. You may just have to wait until you can as an adult get the braces you may need on your own.
