Smoking after wisdom teeth extraction
I just got a wisdom tooth removed today. It was not really a big deal since it was mostly out so the extraction was rather quickly done and I do not have much pain at all. The thing is I am a smoker and the paper work for the after care instructions say I should wait 24 hours before smoking. I heard different things said about that though. I do not what dry socket but what are the odds of really getting that from smoking? Do I really have to wait 24 hours?

I normally hear that dentist do not want you to smoke after an extraction for at least two to three days. So 24 is really not that long. However, I do have a feeling you will smoke regardless of time frame.

I see this question often on this blog as well as a few others and it comes down to whether you have the will power to do as advise by your dentist or not. For people that can not go without a cigarette for a day or two then the odds of not smoking for the time frame requires required is just not likely going to happen.
Do your best to do what is right is all it really comes down to. Good luck

Hey I know how you feel. Non-smokers are just not going to be understanding to you. I also smoke. When I had a tooth removed I think I smoked five hours latter. Just make sure you do not puff hard. I had no problems. But if you do not want to take any chances like I did then wait the 24 hour period.
