How can you get a secondary dental insurance plan
I have dental insurnace though work. It is free to me but it really does not cover much more the the basic. I need to get a crown and my dental insurance though work will only cover $150.00 of a 600.00 crown. That still leaves me with a big part of the cost. Is there a secondary dental plan that I could get to lower the remaining cost of the crown?

Thing thing to know when trying to buy a secondary dental plan to help cover an item that is already being covered by another plan is to make sure you can do so with your current plan. Sometimes there is cross coverage issues where the insurance company can start to decline coverages. Make sure your currently policy will let you combine.
Second: you would need to make sure the second plan also will let you combine with your current plan. Or same thing could happen as stated above.
Third: Make sure your dentist will not only combine two plans but take but both plans your wanting to get. (note: some dentist may not combine two insurance plans)
Fourth: Make sure that when all the above is working out that the coverage for the second plan is going to work like you want it too. Example: Many plans have waiting periods for crowns. Making you wait six months to a year before they start to cover the cost of crowns. If that is the case you may not be saving any money, In fact it could just be costing you more money.
In the end do not buy an second plan without knowing all the facts. Just because it may combine does not mean it is the best thing to do. Sometimes the best thing to do is to find one plan that is going to offer you better coverage.

What worked for me was a dental discount plan. I had a really nice dentist that honored the discount plan he was on and still billed my insurance company at the discount prices. This really help cut my dental cost.
However, you need to find a dentist that is willing to do that for you. I think if they want your business bad enough they will. Good luck

Do not bother trying to combine plans.. Just get one good dental plan. I tried combining plans only to have a big mess.
The dental office said that they could combine the plans and that they would do all the work. Only to find out they they jacked it all up and I got denied cover on secondary plan for current work in progress.
To top it office my first company found out about it and also tried denying the claims sent to them as cross coverages. I had to straighten it all out and it was a pain.
