Dental Care, Second opinion on having a deep cleaning.
So a few days ago I went to the dentist for a regural cleaning. I know it has been a long while since I last went in for a dental cleaning so I was worried about having a cavity or something. The dentist told me I did not have any cavities.
However, he showed me were my teeth at the bottom were stain up some from smoking. It was on the back side of my bottom front teeth. I though he would have scraped the stains off when he was cleaning my teeth but they did not.
The dentist starting checking my gums with the measuring tool where he said I had mostly 3’s and 4’s. and a few 2’s. He said I needed a deep cleaning which would cost me a total of $400.00 without insurance. Also get this having the deep cleaning still will not remove the stains from prior smoking. He said I would need my teeth whiten for that.
Does this sound correct to you? I am I being taken for a ride I can not really afford? Should I be looking for an second dental opinion on wheather or not I need a deep cleaning?

Yes cleaning your teeth has nothing to do with teeth whitening. Your cleaning your teeth to remove tarter build up not stains.
By the way smoking is bad for your gums and my be part of the reason why you not only have stained up teeth but high gum number in the 3s – 4s Take heed and try to quite the smoking.

First get some insurance before having dental work started. Buy a low cost dental HMO insurance plan so that you can reduce the cost for all your dental work needed.
Know this will not help you whiten your teeth since most plans do not cover the whiting however it is the other teeth issues are are most important right now.
If you do not like the smoking stains buy crest whitening strips they do work well and it is a lot less costly then having whiten treatment from a dentist.
