Dental care, Tooth Decay under a filling is it the dentists fault?
About a year ago I had a medium size filling done on a back molar. Now I went to the same dentist that did the filling only to be told that I have tooth decay under the filling. And that Now I may need a root canal and a crown done. Which is going to cost over $1000.00
However is this not the dentist fault in the first place? After all it is clear that he did not get all the decay out the first time when he did the filling and now it is worse and he going to charge me for his mistake. What is up with that? What can I do about this?

You know you can get a new cavity on the same tooth with a filling. It may be that it just got under the filling but was started on the side of it.
A year ago is a long time if the dentist left decay with the original cavity I would say you would have been feeling it before now.

Did you address this issues at the time with the dentist? If so what did they have to say. I am not sure you are correct but maybe you can talk them down on the cost they are trying to charge you

It appears that it is never the dentist fault. They are God like and never make a mistake. They always remove all the decay in their prep for the crown. They always make sure that there is no decay before they install the crown. They always use enough cement to fill the gaps under the crown so that no cavities can form from sweet liquids getting into these gapes. I wish everyone could do there jobs this well and never make mistakes. Oh, that’s right, they graduated from dental college and then went right into practice. Now, they are left to perfect their skills on the public with no skilled person checking their workmanship. If you had anyone come into your home to perform any of the trades, like plumbing or electrical to name a few, would you want an apprentice or even skilled craftsman work in your home without an inspector to approve the job? But we will allow recent graduates to perform micro surgery in our mouths and believe anything that they tell us. Like it going to cost you $2000.00 dollars for a root canal and a new crown. So we just have to take that. I stop going to a dentist because it took her over an hour and a half to fit and install my new crown after it had been made. To make a long story short, she was out of the room more then she was in. When I went to the new dentist he showed me the X-ray and you could see the decay under it. I went back to the first dentist and told him (the owner} about it and that I was still paying for the crown with the decay under it. He agreed to take responsibility for the new crow and root canal, until another dentist came into the room and convince him not to. This was because the second dentist did a root canal on the tooth next to it and may have disturbed the tooth and caused the openings so that the decay could get under the crown. I went back to dentist #2 and got an X-ray showing the tooth with the decay under the crown and the next tooth without the rot canal done. I’m going to call dentist #1 next week to show him the x-ray and hope he stand behind his and is employees workmanship and covers the bill for me; Only time will tell and if he does, then I will insist that the job be done by his enologist and himself or better yet, another dentist.
