Dental opinions, How do you go about finding the right dentist
I have not been to the dentist since I was 18 and still on my parents dental insurance plan. I am 21 now and know I really should see a dentist. My family dentist I never really liked and is partly why I have not been back to see another dentist even though I have dental insurance though my job.
I have a plan where I am told I can pick my own dentist but I am worried about getting someone once again that I do not like and will make me upset about even going. I need a caring dentist that does not see me as a monthly car payment. Any advise for choosing a dentist.

Start making phone calls. Call your local dental office. When speaking to the staff tell them you need a dentist that is not over booked up back to back appointments.
That you need a dentist that can spend the time to address any questions you have and not make you feel he is always running late for the next appointment.
At least that is one of my pet peeves. Keep in mind when you have a dental insurance plan that let you choose your dentist if you do not like the one you picked go to someone else. Nothing keeping you at any one dental office so you are the one in control of who you see.

I like to do stop ins but it up to you on how much effort you want to put into finding the right dentist.
For me I started with making some phone calls. If the person seems too rush to even answer a few basic questions over the phone I just move on. If the staffing to busy for you then the dentist must be too.
Then when I had a list of a few dental offices I was thinking about I drove by and walked into the place. I wanted to see for myself. Was the place clean where the staffing friendly.
Now that still did not address the dentist per say but a bad fount staffing can make for a bad total experience. Then when you think you have it down just make an appointment for a check up and X-rays only. This give you a chance to get a feel for the dentist. If you like the dentist and you need more dental work then make an appointment. I normally do not have more work done on the spot because I like to think it over. Know the cost and what you are going to be covered for and do what you feel is best for you.

Ask around talk to your friend and family members and find out who they go to. Getting a dental referral from someone you know and trust can go a long way in making you feel better about the dental office and dentist.
