Dental care, Teeth whitening help need for yellow teeth.
I have a friend that has very yellow teeth. The thing is she wants to go out and buy dental strips to whiten her teeth with but I told her she should see a dentist for a basic cleaning first. My thinking is she has not been in a while and I know she must have tartar build up.
Will whitening her teeth with strips leave spots if the tartar is not removed first. That is want I told her but really not sure. I just think she needs to get to a dentist but I would like to know if I am right or not.

If your friend as not see a dentist in over a year she needs to see one so if you think that well work to get her to go then great.
I say what is the point of having pretty white teeth if they fall out due to gum disease.

Well my thinking is the same. Whitening strips are ment to bleach out the stains in your teeth. If she has tartar build up it will not remove it.
I am not sure if it would really make her teeth all spotty or not but it does sound like she sould se a dentist for your basic dental care anyway.

I doubt if she uses whitening strips it would give her two tone teeth due to any tartar that she may have.
However, I have to agree with the last replies what is the point of whitening your teeth just to make them appare good when they are not.
Advise to her that she could get a dental HMO plan which many times offer free X-rays and basic cleanings. They are low cost plans so one should be affordable for her. That way she can start seeing a dentist get a free cleaning and then if she want to use the whitening strips more power to her.
