Maryland hurting gums and toothbrush irritation
First let me say I know I do not have gingivitis. I take really good care of my teeth by brushing twice a day, flossing daily and I use a oral mouthwash rinse every day after brushing my teeth.
However even though my gums are not swollen and they are a healthy pink color they still hurt when I brush and will get redder for a little time afterwords. Could I be having a problem with my toothbrush? Can a toothbrush irritate your gums?

You could be just brushing too hard. Get a soft bristle toothbrush and try to brush a little easier. See if that helps any. If not you may still want to go to a dentist to have your gums check.

You still may have the starting side effects of getting gum disease or gingivitis. My sister inlaw take really good care of her teeth and gums as well but she stills has a small case of gingivitis that she has to stay on top of with her dentist.
If you are not brushing too hard or too long to hurt your gums then you should see a dentist just to make sure there is no gum issues going on that you are not aware of.

Well it is good to hear that you think you should not have gingivitis, but have you talk to a dentist to know that for a fact?
I would think that if you are brushing to hard you would know. If you use a hard bristle brush change to a softer one. If you are brushing more the two mintues try cutting down the time frame. It is not how long you brush your teeth for but that you are brushing correctly for at least two minutes.
