Dental care habits start even before your baby cuts their first tooth. This is done by wiping baby gums with a soft damp washcloths after nursing or feeding. There is no need to use toothpaste at this young age just wrap the cloth around your index finger and gently rub it over the baby gums.
By doing this it help to serve two purpose. The first is that it helps to remove bacteria in your baby mouth. Although bacteria in the mouth usually can not harm the gums before the teeth emerge, it is still best to clean your baby mouth. Also this help to get your baby used to having his or her mouth clean as part of a daily routine making it easier to transition to using a tooth brush later on.
