I am wondering I have an overbite that I would like to get braces for and have fixed. Do you need a referral from a general dentist first before seeing an Orthodontist dentist? Or can I just go straight to an Orthodontist dentist to have them fix my teeth? Not sure what the required process is.

That could depend on whether or not you have dental insurance. If you have dental insurance you would more then likely need to have the insurance company approve and refer you out.
If you do not have dental insurance then normally you can go straight to an orthodontic without a referral.

Although many patients visit the orthodontist with a referral from their general dentist, patients may visit an orthodontist directly without a referral for both braces and Invisalign. The orthodontist will always coordinate your orthodontic treatment with your general dentist.
