Requirements to Become a Veterinarian
Earning a bachelor’s degree: The first requirement to become a veterinarian is to acquire an undergraduate degree. Aspiring veterinarians should take such undergraduate courses as animal biology, organic and inorganic chemistry, physics, genetics, zoology and cellular biology.
Taking appropriate entrance exam: All accredited veterinary medicine colleges require applicants to submit test scores with their application. Most colleges require scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), but some require scores from the Veterinary College Admissions Test (VCAT).
Obtaining a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree: Earning a veterinary degree requires four years of full-time study. Aspiring veterinarians should be sure their college is accredited by the Council on Education of the American Veterinarian Medical Association (AVMA).
Completing an internship: While completing a one-year internship after graduating is not one of the requirements to become a veterinarian, it is often helpful for career development. Many graduates seek an internship experience that will lead to higher earning power later.
Acquiring a state license: Obtaining a state license is the final requirement to become a veterinarian. The licensing process varies by state, but most states require applicants to earn a passing grade on the national board examination.

Educational Requirements to Become an Orthodontist
Those interested in becoming an Orthodontist must become a dentist and specialize in orthodontics during the latter part of their studies. They must earn a bachelor’s degree, followed by 4-plus years earning a Doctor of Dental Surgery or a Doctor of Dental Medicine. Such programs usually include two years of classroom work and two years of residential practice. They must also be state and nationally licensed after passing written and practical exams by the American Dental Association. Most programs also require completing an original research project or submitting an article for publication.
