Fighting Gum Disease, and bad breath.
Please help. For the two months I have be going to the dentist for gum disease and gingivitis treatment. My teeth over all are in in shape but my gums were not. I am doing everything I can now since I have been seeing this very kind dentist.
The dentist is working with me on the cost and helpping me with my gums. The problem I have is that I also have really bad breath. I do my best to keep my distance from people because I am afraid they will notice how bad my breath is. I know it has to do with the gum disease but what can I do about it. My dentist told me to stay away from any chewing gum. Does anyone know of some really good mints that last longer then a few minutes while it is in your mouth.

Try just rinsing your mouth out with warm salt water whenever you can. This will help your gums and your bad breath issues.

Okay here are the facts as I see them. Bad breath is caused by germs in your mouth. Mints and gum does not kill germs only masks the odor they cause. Once the gum or mint is done your bad breath comes right back.
You need to brush three times. I would floss after each meal whenever possible. But at least floss once a day. Then mix a little hydrogen peroxide with warm water and rinse your mouth out in the morning and after lunch. Just use a little hydrogen peroxide it is just to kill the germs. See if that helps you

I have the same problem. Some days are better then others. All you really can do until you get your gum disease and gingivitis under control is to maintain good oral hygiene.
What I do on the days I feel my breath is not so fresh is that I carry in my bag the 1.00 samples of mouthwash you can get in most drug stores. That way I always have something on hand to use regardless of were I am at.

I know how you feel and having bad breath can be very upsetting when you are doing everything in your power not to have bad breath to being with.
If you find that it is not about oral hygiene then you may want to make sure it is not you are eating. Yes gum disease can cause you to have bad breath but if you have that under control your bad breath issues should start to clear up. Even foods we would not think would cause bad breath can if they do not agree with you.
After ruling out all reasons on your own for why you may have bad breath issues, you may at that time wish to speak to your doctor about it.
