Reviewing dental insurance, dental plans for a couple

My husband and I live in New York and we are looking for either dental insurance or a dental discount plan.  We really do not care which as long as it will work for our dental needs.  I have good teeth and only need my twice year visits. However my husband does not have bad teeth but normally has more teeth issues then I do.  We would like something that as little to no waiting periods.

I am new at tring to find insurance and I am not sure what are the key things that I should know before buying any plan.  Can you offer up some suggestions or give me a starting point at what I should be looking for.
