Dental Insurance, Gingivitis treatment and gum care

Hello I think I may be getting gingivitis or gum disease.  I am not sure which but my gums are really red and when I brush they bleed.  I am told those are signs of bad gums.  I have not been to a dentist in a long time I really do not like going.  I think they are all out to just take your money.   Which is something I do not have much of.

Is there any dental insurance that will cover for treatment of gums for free?  If so I would get it that way I know the dentist is not over charging me.  Otherwise is there anything I can do without having to go to the dentist for care?
