Dental Plan Reviews, Dentist Can Help to Identify People with Undiagnosed Diabetes
According to a study (Identification of unrecognized diabetes and pre-diabetes in a dental setting, which was published in the Journal of Dental Research) researchers found that dental visits represented a chance to intervene in the diabetes epidemic by identifying individuals with diabetes or pre-diabetes who are unaware of their condition.
Researchers at the Columbia University College of Dental Medicine who did the study show that since Periodontal disease is an early complication of diabetes, and about 70 percent of US adults see a dentist at least one to twice a year a dentist may be able to help identify the people that go undiagnosed.
