Dental Opinions, How long must you keep dental insurance for after buying it?
Question: I looking to buy a low cost dental insurance. From what I see under most dental insurance plans, I can get what I am looking for done for free. Therefore the cost of dental insurance for a month would be well worth paying for if I am going to get cleaning, X-rays and check up for free. Since that is all I want I do not see the point in paying for dental insurance longer then maybe one month.
Answer: You will just have to read the terms and conditions of the plan you are reviewing. Some Insurance such as PPO’s have long term waiting periods that may effect you. Which means cancelling the plan out early may not make any seance financially.
Where as HMO dental insurance plans are the more affordable dental insurance type, (cost ranging from $6.00 – $20.00 a month for an individual) many HMO dental insurance plan make pay in full for a year. If they offer monthly payment option the plan may still be a year contracted for a year term.
If you do find a HMO dental insurance plan that will cancel with a 30 day written request. You may want to re-think cancelling. You dental care needs dose not stop at one dental appointment. In order to maintain your dental health seeing a dental regularly is important part of that. A low cost dental HMO plan is still worth keeping just for that. In addition to being able to have benefits for other dental needs such as fillings, crowns etc.
