Dental Opinions, Brushing Emerging Teeth.
Generally baby teeth will start to emerge at around six months of age. You will want to look for a baby toothbrush that has a small head and grip that is suitable for your hand. At first you will want to use toothpaste that does not have fluoride. Avoid using fluoride toothpaste until your child knows how to spit. However if you can not find toothpaste without fluoride then use just a smear (about the size of a grain of rice)
Just like adult teeth you want to brush your baby’s teeth twice a day. Make sure to gently brush on the inside and outside of each tooth. If your baby lets you try gently brushing the tongue, as this will dislodge bacteria that can cause bad breath. You do not need to rinse since you are using such a small amount of toothpaste. If you think rinsing is necessary you are using to much toothpaste and make sure to use less next time. If you have additional questions about proper dental care for your baby make sure to speak with your dentist. Your dentist will also be able to go over correctly baby dental care.
